Finding A Doctor or Surgeon

If you are considering liposculpture but do not live in an area typically served by doctors skilled in this specialty, you may want to search online for doctors in a nearby state using terms like:

* California liposculpture
* liposculpture New York

Or, maybe you have a friend in a city that’s well served by cosmetic surgeons (and with whom you could stay, perhaps, during your initial recovery period), in which case you might want to ask the friend for a recommendation or search online for terms like:

It is important, of course, to find a well-trained cosmetic surgeon who abides by the highest ethical standards and has a long list of references and satisfied clients. Look for a doctor who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (or, in Canada, by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada), and choose a tumescent liposculpture surgeon who puts safety above all other considerations.

It is also a good idea to talk to your family doctor if you are considering cosmetic surgery. He or she will be able to give you general advice about surgery and can also consult with you regarding any health issues you should mention to your surgeon.

Once you have found a doctor with whom to consult, ask questions! You should never feel nervous about asking questions; a good surgeon will do everything possible to put you at ease and will make sure you get the information and support you need. Before meeting with a doctor, you may find it useful to write down your questions as they occur to you and/or to invite your partner, a relative or a friend to accompany you to the consultation. If English is not your first language or you have a sensory impairment, you should ensure providers are equipped to supply information in a way you can understand.
